Goat Care Expectations & Buyer Qualifications

At Double CF Farm, we are committed to placing our goats in responsible, loving homes where they will receive the care they need to thrive. Before purchasing a goat from us, please review our expectations for proper goat care and the qualifications we require from potential buyers.

Basic Goat Care Requirements

1. Shelter & Housing

✅ A secure, weatherproof shelter that protects from wind, rain, and extreme temperatures.
✅ Good ventilation to prevent respiratory issues.
Clean bedding (such as straw or pine shavings) that is changed regularly.

2. Fencing & Space

Strong fencing (woven wire, cattle panels, or electric fencing) at least 4 feet high to prevent escapes.
Goat-proof latches to prevent curious goats from opening gates.
✅ At least 200-300 square feet per goat for exercise and browsing.

3. Nutrition & Health

Fresh, clean water available at all times.
✅ A proper diet including:

  • Goat-safe hay (alfalfa for lactating does or growing kids, grass hay for others).

  • Loose minerals formulated for goats (NOT just a salt block).

  • Limited grain (if needed for pregnant/lactating does or growing kids).

✅ Regular hoof trimming (about every 6-8 weeks).
✅ Basic health knowledge on deworming, vaccinations, and parasite management.

4. Social Needs & Companionship

✅ Goats must not be kept alone—they need at least one other goat companion.
✅ Other livestock (such as sheep or horses) do not replace the need for a goat buddy.
✅ Goats are social and require daily interaction and care.

5. Veterinary & Long-Term Care

✅ Buyers must have access to a veterinarian experienced with goats.
✅ Be prepared for potential vet visits, emergencies, and long-term care needs.
✅ Goats can live 10-15 years, which is a long-term commitment.

📝 Qualifications for Potential Buyers

To ensure our goats go to good homes, we require that buyers:

✔ Have proper housing, fencing, and space ready before bringing home a goat.
✔ Understand that goats require ongoing care, including hoof trimming and parasite management.
✔ Acknowledge that goats are herd animals and cannot live alone.
✔ Agree not to send the goat to auction or slaughter.
✔ Be willing to continue learning about goat care and ask questions when needed.

If you’re new to goats, that’s okay! We’re happy to provide guidance and resources to help you get started.
