From Herbs to Healing: Why Simple Ingredients Go the Distance
When I first started making soap, my mission was clear: keep it simple, make it healing, and never mess with what nature already made good.
That’s why from day one, I refused to use synthetic fragrances. Not only do many of them come from man-made chemicals, but strong smells give me headaches—and honestly, it always felt wrong to take something as beautiful and nourishing as raw goat milk and then toss in something fake. It just defeated the whole purpose.
So I used essential oils instead. They’re pure and plant-based. But over time, I kept hearing the same thing from customers:
“I love your soap, but I wish it smelled a little stronger.”
That’s when I started experimenting.
The Experiment That Changed Everything
One day, I infused real vanilla bean into tallow. I let it slowly warm, then whipped it up—and what came out was like vanilla icing. It was soft, dreamy, and smelled amazing. And most importantly? The scent actually stuck.
That moment opened the door.
What if I infused all my oils with herbs—before even turning them into soap?
What Herbal Infusion Looks Like on the Farm
I buy dried lavender buds from a local lavender field and let them gently steep in olive oil over low heat. The oil becomes infused with that beautiful calming scent and the benefits of the plant. It’s now the base of my Simply Lavender soap—and it actually smells like real lavender.
For my refreshing Simply Eucalyptus Mint bar, I infuse the oil with dried mint. It gives the soap a crisp, cooling scent that doesn’t overwhelm—but actually holds through the curing process.
Turmeric root is known for calming inflammation and helping irritated skin. I infuse it into the oils for my Simply Turmeric Oat soap. It gives the soap a gentle golden hue and delivers skin-soothing support—especially for folks with sensitive or autoimmune-prone skin.
While I don’t infuse frankincense (since it’s a resin), I pair its essential oil with infused herbal oils in my salves and lotions. It’s a powerful, earthy aroma that brings comfort to tired muscles and dry skin.
Why I Take the Long Way
Infusing herbs takes time, but it’s worth every minute. It lets me create soaps and lotions that smell natural, feel nourishing, and stay true to the healing purpose behind every batch.
There’s no synthetic anything here. No overpowering fragrance. Just real plants, real milk, and real results—crafted right here on the farm.
Thanks for trusting me with your skin and your wellness. I’ll keep doing it the slow, simple way—because that’s the way it works best.
From my hands to your home,
Christine
